The municipal transport operator in Kerpen has ordered a total of 26 Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen. Full delivery of the order is expected in 2025.

Solaris, Europe's leading hydrogen bus manufacturer, will deliver a total of 26 modern Urbino 12 hydrogen buses to REVG Kerpen. Full delivery of the order is expected to take place in 2025. This is the first collaboration between Solaris and a public transport operator based in Kerpen.

‘We are honoured to be able to deliver our state-of-the-art hydrogen-powered buses to Kerpen - another important moment in the evolution of the transport sector. The selection of REVG Kerpen confirms the operator's commitment to pioneering sustainable transport solutions. This is another city with which we can move together towards a greener future, driven by innovation and environmental responsibility,’ - said Christian Goll, Managing Director of Solaris Deutschland.

The ordered buses will be equipped with 70 kW hydrogen fuel cells generating electricity directly on board the bus. Central electric motors will be responsible for the power supply. In addition, the hydrogen Urbino buses will be equipped with Solaris High Power batteries to support the fuel cells during peak hours.

The growing interest in hydrogen technology across Europe, especially in the zero-emission transport segment, is evident. Solaris is the largest manufacturer of hydrogen buses in Europe with a market share reaching 44.5% in 2023 alone. This technology is of particular interest in the German market, which is actively investing in hydrogen-powered buses. Solaris Urbino hydrogen buses are already running successfully in cities such as Cologne, Wuppertal, Hofolding, Weimar, Frankfurt, Gross-Zimmern, Aschaffenburg and the Munich metropolitan area. Further contracts are in the pipeline, soon feeding the fleets of cities such as Krefeld, Güstrow, Gross-Gerau, Hamburg, Gummersbach and Duisburg.
