EU hydrogen grant for ORLEN
Nearly EUR 9 million will be used, among other things, to produce hydrogen vehicles and test them for use at Chopin Airport and Warsaw's public transport.
Implemented by ORLEN and a consortium of 17 partners, the international HySPARK project was the first in Poland to receive funding from the EU's Clean Hydrogen Partnership programme.
The innovative hydrogen vehicles produced under HySPARK will be powered by fuel supplied from the ORLEN HUB in Włocławek. The station at Chopin Airport will be built in 2026, thanks to funding from the European CEF programme Transport AFIF Clean Cities Phase II. The hydrogen-powered buses will be supplied by ARTHUR BUS, the hydrogen tractors by Quantron, and the ground handling trucks for the capital's Chopin Airport by the Italian company ATENA. Users of the vehicles will include Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe in Warsaw, ORLEN and LS Airport Services.
- Hydrogen is a safe, alternative energy source and one of the pillars of the transformation that will undoubtedly play an important role in transport. Several local governments in Poland are already using hydrogen-powered buses from ORLEN, and our first publicly accessible hydrogen station for passenger cars is also in operation in Poznań. The next stage will be the testing of ground handling vehicles at Chopin Airport and public transport buses in Warsaw. The development and popularisation of hydrogen fuels is associated with large investments, so I am glad that it was our consortium that obtained EU funds for this purpose,' says Grzegorz Jóźwiak, Director of the Hydrogen and Synthetic Fuels Technology Office.
