Carrier Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) is continuing its impressive investments for zero-emission public transportation. Solaris will deliver 36 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses and 2 articulated Urbino 18 hydrogen buses. Deliveries are scheduled for 2024.

The city has set its sights on zero-emission buses, powered by electricity derived from hydrogen technology. The order includes 36 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses and 2 articulated Urbino 18 hydrogen models. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona already has more than 130 Solaris brand buses.

The hydrogen Urbino 12 hydrogen buses will be equipped with ultra-modern sets of fuel cells fuel cells with an output of 70 kW. In the articulated version, the fuel cells have an output of 100 kW. Hydrogen Solaris will also have a relatively small Solaris High Power traction battery, serving an auxiliary function. At the heart of the propulsion system will be a central electric traction motor.

The vehicles will be equipped with state-of-the-art solutions, already well known to Barcelona's passengers and TMB employees. On hot days, comfortable riding conditions will be provided by efficient air conditioning. USB ports will be provided on board, allowing travelers to charging mobile devices during the trip. Drivers in their daily work will be able to benefit from a number of solutions that support their work and improve road safety.
Of particular note here is the eMirror system, in which cameras replace traditional side mirrors side mirrors. All ordered vehicles will also be equipped with Mobileye Shield+, minimizing the risk of collisions with pedestrians or cyclists.

The first Solaris buses were delivered to the TMB fleet in Barcelona in 2015. Barcelona is one of the first European cities to have an Urbino 18 electric on its streets at the time.
The carrier has regularly returned to this model, placing orders in 2018 and 2020. Now the hydrogen Solaris will appear on the streets of Barcelona for the first time. In total, Solaris has so far delivered more than 900 buses to Spain, including five Urbino 12 hydrogen to Palma de Mallorca.
